From WOW to WHOA!: National Geographic Channel Unleashes Adventure-Packed Season of Thrills, Spills and Jaw-Dropping Stories

National Geographic Channel delivers a slew of new and returning series to the fall lineup; from shocking tales of survival abroad and the extreme science behind miraculous death-defying feats, to quirky experiments and redneck rocket men! Currently Canada’s #1 digital channel (A18-49 & A25-54), with over 5 million household subscribers nationwide, National Geographic Channel’s powerful programming launching throughout September and October, will surprise and enthrall viewers with an envelope-pushing lineup of series that think and tell stories outside the ‘yellow box’.

Frontier Force is a brand-new series that leaves viewers feeling the adrenaline of riding shotgun with the Montana police force.  Auto theft, drug overdoses and even trespassing grizzly bears are all in a day’s work when it comes to the calls Montana police respond to in the rugged land known as America’s Final Frontier. A woman is severely injured in remote mountainous terrain, where first responders must take hours, not minutes, to reach her. Police suspect that an Iraqi war vet needs psychiatric evaluation instead of jail time after a fight, and a man pulled over for drunken driving claims it’s his constitutional right to drive intoxicated. Frontier Force premieres tonight, Thursday, September 29 at 10 pm.

Premiering Monday, October 3 at 10 pm, The Indestructibles investigates 10 real-life disastrous incidents to explain how someone could survive the seemingly unsurvivable.  Deconstructing footage from each accident, hard and fast scientific principles behind these cases that defy the laws of probability are revealed.  Viewers will witness harrowing accounts from eyewitnesses and victims to get a 360° look at what really happened, including a skydiver who falls from almost five kilometers up, a helicopter split in half high above city streets, an SUV that rolls over a pedestrian, a zoo keeper attacked by hungry lions and a tourist pulled off a cliff by violent Hawaiian waves. New episodes will air at 10 pm and 10:30 pm beginning October 3.

On Monday, October 17, meet the self-proclaimed Rocket City Rednecks.  They are five “backwoods” guys from the rocket city:  Huntsville, Alabama, home to NASA’s Marshall Flight Center and the birthplace of the U.S. space program.  They love to shoot stuff and drink beer, and one of them lives in a trailer, but with a family tree full of NASA rocket scientists (not to mention their own PhDs and advanced degrees), they aim a little higher — like using homemade moonshine to fuel a rocket. With their thick accents and distinctive vocabulary, the tight-knit group brings its own unique style of Southern charm to science and technology. Back-to-back episodes of Rocket City Rednecks begin Monday, October 17 at 9 pm.

The new series Mad Scientists taps into viewers’ curiosity to see if science experiments will succeed or go disastrously wrong. Premiering Tuesday, October 18 at 9 pm, travel across America with professional builder, master-of-all-trades and host John Bowler as he goes into gadget-filled garages and junk-strewn backyards to meet the amateur inventors, weekend scientists and eccentric engineers next door. They are the brainiacs with a penchant for outrageous “toys” — like a jet-powered minivan, a fire-breathing wheelchair, a water-powered rocket belt or a giant telephone pole seesaw. The series checks out their prized gizmos and challenges them to improve their greatest inventions. New episodes will air at 9 pm and 9:30 pm beginning October 18.

New seasons of Locked Up Abroad, Known Universe and Hard Time round out the stellar fall schedule.

Tonight, Thursday, September 29 at 9 pm, National Geographic Channel premieres its latest installment of Locked Up Abroad, taking viewers inside first-hand accounts of capture, imprisonment and pure terror far from home.

Known Universe returned for a third season Tuesday September 27 at 10 pm. The series explores fascinating mysteries of our universe; from killer asteroids and sun storms to massive volcanoes and life on other planets.

Hard Time takes viewers on a yearlong journey behind bars, following the lives of those who work and serve time in two of Georgia’s toughest maximum-security prisons. Season two premieres tonight, Thursday September 29 at 8 pm.
