Super Channel, Canada’s only national pay television network, is pleased to host the much anticipated return of Southland – in HD, uncut, uncensored and commercial free – beginning March 15.
From Emmy Award winners John Wells, Ann Biderman and Chris Chulack, Southland is a raw and gritty look at Los Angeles and the “public servants” who police it. The fast-moving drama takes viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families from the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles.
“The popular series got caught in the prime time talk show experiment with its original network. We are pleased it is back and we’re able to bring it to Canadians,” said Sandy Perkins, Super Channel, Vice President Programming. “Super Channel will be airing all 7 episodes of Season 1 from the beginning – uncut, uncensored, commercial free with extended scenes. Season 2’s 6 episodes never aired after it was cancelled, and we’re happy to offer them exclusively first run. There is already a buzz so we know Canadian fans are eager to catch up with their favourite characters.”
Michael Cudlitz (“A River Runs Through It”) plays John Cooper, a seasoned Los Angeles cop, assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie, “The O.C.”). Cooper’s honest, no-nonsense approach to the job leaves Sherman questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer.
Cudlitz and McKenzie are joined by other cast members, including Regina King (“Ray,” “Jerry Maguire”), who plays Detective Lydia Adams. Adams lives with and is the primary caregiver of her mother. Her partner, Detective Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, “Boiler Room”) is an unhappily married father of three. Michael McGrady (“The Thin Red Line”) plays Detective Daniel “Sal” Salinger. Sal oversees fellow gang detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, “Drive,” “Ugly Betty”) and Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, “Alpha Dog”). Arija Bareikis (“Crossing Jordan”) plays patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams of being the first woman accepted into SWAT.
