INTERVENTION CANADA Renewed for Second Season

Shaw Media in association with Open Door Co. and Insight Productions today announced that Intervention Canada is in production on a second season to air in fall 2012 on Slice™.

Intervention Canada is a gripping one-hour documentary series that explores the terrifying reality of Canadians whose addiction to drugs, alcohol or other compulsive behaviour is threatening their lives and destroying their families.

Based on the Emmy® Award winning series Intervention on A&E in the U.S., Season 1 of Intervention Canada exploded onto the scene in September 2011, and quickly became one of fall’s top-ranked programs on Slice.

Intervention is a flagship franchise for A&E Network, and we are truly gratified that viewers in Canada responded so well to the first season,” says Christian Murphy, Sr. Vice President, Programming & Marketing, A+E Networks.  “We are excited to be moving ahead with a second season and hope the series will contribute to tackling these very serious issues as it has in the US.”

Intervention Canada is an impactful series that strives to help change the lives of Canadian families challenged with addiction and Slice is committed to continuing to share these powerful stories with viewers,” says Barbara Williams, SVP of Content for Shaw Media.

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to continue documenting not only the reality of addiction for families across the country, but most importantly the potential for recovery”, says Open Door Executive Producer Tom Powers.

“Addiction is a nightmare that impacts marriages, families and communities all across Canada,” says Insight Productions Executive Producer John Brunton.  “I’m proud to be associated with a program that not only helps change people’s lives, but educates viewers by showing what an addict’s life is really like, dispelling any notion of the glamour that is sometimes mistakenly associated with drug use.”

Returning for Season 2 are interventionists Andrew Galloway and Maureen Brine as well as series show runner, Karen Wookey.

The 14 x 1 hr episode order began shooting in January of 2012.  The new season will begin airing this fall on Slice.

INTERVENTION CANADA is produced by Open Door Co. and Insight Production Company Ltd. in association with Shaw Media. Tom Powers is Executive Producer for Open Door. John Brunton and Barbara Bowlby are Executive Producers for Insight Productions. John Murray is Supervising Producer. Karen Wookey is Producer. For Shaw Media, Leslie Merklinger is Acting Director, Factual Content and the Production Executive is Holly Gillanders.

SliceTM is a Shaw Media network – a division of Shaw Communications Inc.
