Last night’s Home Run Derby on Rogers Sportsnet set a ratings record as 935,000* (2+) viewers tuned in to watch Robinson Cano win the competition, preliminary data from BBM Canada overnight states. This marks a 55 per cent increase over the previous best of 602,000 viewers in 2010
Audience levels peaked at 1.4 million* near the end of the first round as Toronto Blue Jay Jose Bautista, MLB’s current home run leader, made his way to the plate.
The 2011 Derby also saw one of the most dramatic finals in years as Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano broke the record for most home runs in the last round with 12. The story was made even more interesting as it was his father, former big leaguer Jose Cano who was pitching to him throughout the contest.
