Imagine the Herculean task of hauling a fully-intact 1,270 tonne submarine across dry land precariously balanced on a railway; racing against time – while the price of gold remains high – to relocate over 170 homes sitting atop almost $7-billion worth of gold; or moving a fleet of 20 enormous mega-yachts across the stormy Atlantic without scratching them, or getting them wet. Welcome to the world of MONSTER MOVES! Premiering with three new episodes Monday, February 22 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, exclusively on Travel + Escape, MONSTER MOVES returns with some of the most daring and dangerous relocation projects ever attempted. By road, rail and sea across Canada, Europe and the U.S., the stakes for both haulers – and owners – are high and the patience is wearing thin. And for the first time in MONSTER MOVES history, a move goes catastrophically wrong!
Dodging hurricanes, demolition teams and stormy seas, this season of MONSTER MOVES is by far the most challenging; in fact, everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. But for the engineering professionals in MONSTER MOVES, it’s just another day on the job! Each episode follows teams of movers as they race against time to move monstrous structures to new and ever-challenging locations.
Highlights from the new episodes of MONSTER MOVES include:
MONSTER MOVES: “Supersize Submarine”
Monday, February 22 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT
A daring team of marine engineers attempts to move a colossal British-built submarine 1,126 kilometres across water and land in Canada. The epic journey nearly ends in disaster as the 1,270 tonne vessel dramatically topples over on a beach headland as it’s hauled out of the sea onto dry land. The incident-packed journey follows the team battling to haul the Cold War Onondaga boat across the stormy North Atlantic, through narrow locks and up a perilously steep railway to reach its final destination. Will they make it before winter blizzards arrive?
MONSTER MOVES: “Titanic Towns”
Monday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT
Two teams of building movers race against time to save two towns under threat. In Quebec, a heavy hauling crew attempts to relocate over 170 homes that are sitting atop $7-billion worth of gold. To reach the precious reserves while the price of gold remains high, the team must work fast! In North Carolina, a second team attempts to move a suburb of colossal historic mansions across the bustling city to rescue them from demolition. The century-old mansions each weigh over 181 tonnes and are extremely fragile. Can both teams complete these ultimate rescue missions before time runs out?
MONSTER MOVES: “Millionaires’ Mega”
Monday, March 8 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT
A team of marine engineers battle storms and hurricanes to transport a fleet of mega-yachts worth over $120-million from Genoa, Italy, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 20 bespoke yachts are too precious to sail across the Atlantic, so a team of Dutch engineers create the world’s first customized “submersible” yacht transporter-ship to ferry the luxurious pleasure boats around the world. The mission’s success lies in the hands of loading master Tieke Springer, who must load, balance and secure the yachts on the transporter ships’ flat deck – just so – so they can survive the rough sea crossing. Halfway through the 8,000 kilometre voyage, the ship runs into a powerful hurricane. Will the precious cargo survive this deadly encounter?
