What do you get when you cross a cat and an octopus? How about a rabbit, a shark and a chainsaw? The new TELETOON Original Production answers these age-old questions in Spliced, an animated comedy about a group of mutants trying to make their way on a desert island. Spliced premieres in 3 Hours of Really, Really, Really Awesome on Thursday, April 1 at 8:30 p.m.
Entrée is a cow-pig-chicken-tuna-shrimp hybrid who sweats gravy. Princess Pony Apehands has the body of a gorilla, the head of a pony and the personality of a six-year-old girl. Mr. Smarty Smarts, a cross between a dolphin, a chimp and a Jack Russell Terrier, holds three internet degrees. In the unpredictable universe of Spliced, bizarre creatures like these are run-of-the-mill. The series follows a group of dim-witted mutants as they attempt to build their own society on Keep Away Island after they are abandoned by the doctor who created them.
“Spliced has a great concept and an off-the-wall sense of humour that is sure to appeal to TELETOON viewers. Peri, Entrée and the rest of their mutant friends will fit in very nicely with the other inhabitants of our after school line-up,” said Carole Bonneau, Vice-President, Programming, TELETOON Canada inc.
A Nelvana Studio production, Spliced was created by Simon Racioppa and Richard Elliott, a creative team that has collaborated on numerous animated series including Grossology, Teen Titans and TELETOON Original Production Chop Socky Chooks.
In the Spliced broadcast premiere on Thursday, April 1 at 8:30 p.m., Mr. Smarty Smarts attempts to brainwash Peri (short for “Failed exPERIment number 13”), but ends up twisting fellow mutant Entrée’s mind instead. Viewers have a second chance to catch the episode on Sunday, April 4 at 8:30 p.m. Spliced moves to its regular time on Thursday, April 8, with all-new episodes airing each Thursday at 7 p.m.
Leading up to the premiere of Spliced on April 1, 3 Hours of Really, Really, Really Awesome will feature a special Johnny Test marathon, with five episodes on the theme of experiments gone wrong airing back-to-back from 6 p.m.
The fun continues on teletoon.com, where a dedicated Spliced game creator launches on April 1. Building on the theme of mad science, users are invited to become “game scientists” by choosing from four game modes and creating new levels within the game.
