BBM Canada overnight data confirmed today that an average audience of 4.06 million Canadians watched TSN’s coverage of Canada’s victory over the United States in the IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP semifinal on Monday – making it the fourth most-watched program ever to air on TSN. An additional 507,000 viewers watched RDS’ broadcast of the game, bringing the total combined viewership for the game to 4.57 million.
The Canada-United States semifinal was the most-watched program on Canadian television on Monday, winning the night in total viewers and in all key demographics. Audience levels peaked at 6.7 million viewers on TSN and RDS as Canada wrapped up the game in the third period.
Overall, the game was watched by 10.5 million unique viewers – or close to one in three Canadians.
Online, TSN.ca registered more than 143,000 live streams* of the Canada-United States semifinal, making it the second largest audience ever for a TSN.ca event – just behind last year’s World Juniors Gold Medal game.
Earlier in the day, TSN’s coverage of the Russia-Sweden semifinal attracted an average audience of 1.25 million viewers becoming the most-watched non-Team Canada game ever played. The Canada-Switzerland quarterfinal game on Sunday attracted an average audience of 3.1 million viewers (2.7 million on TSN, 395,000 on RDS) registering the highest audience ever for a quarterfinal game.
Coverage of the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship continues today with Canada facing Russia in the highly-anticipated Gold Medal Game at 7 p.m. ET live on TSN and RDS.
