Canadian National Hockey Championships on TSN and TSN2

The Cups runneth-over on TSN and TSN2 in the coming weeks as four different Hockey Canada championships will be decided in the span of just 16 days. The championship games for Canada’s national men’s and women’s midget hockey, senior men’s AAA hockey and men’s Junior A hockey will air on TSN and TSN2 between April 24 and May 9. Coverage gets underway with the National Female Midget Championship, the ESSO CUP, on Saturday, April 24 at 6 p.m. ET live on TSN2.

ESSO Cup – April 24 at 6 p.m. ET on TSN2
Six of the best female midget hockey teams from across the country collide in Regina, Sask., with the National Championship on the line. The tournament is made up of five regional champions representing the Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, West and Pacific regions as well as the host team, the Regina Rebels. The teams competing in this year’s ESSO CUP include the Moncton Rockets (Atlantic), the Remparts du Richelieu (Quebec), the Thunder Bay Queens (Ontario), the Notre Dame Hounds (West), the Edmonton Thunder (Pacific) and the host Regina Rebels. The gold medal game airs live on Saturday, April 24 at 6 p.m. ET on TSN2. Lisa Bowes hosts from the Co-operators Centre in Regina with veteran hockey broadcaster Dennis Beyak calling the action alongside analyst and Olympic gold medallist Kelly Béchard.

Allan Cup – April 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET on TSN2
The six best Senior Men’s AAA teams in the country head to Fort St. John, B.C., to compete for the title of national champion at the 2010 ALLAN CUP. TSN2 has coverage of the championship game on Saturday, April 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET. One of Canada’s oldest national championships, the ALLAN CUP was first awarded in 1908 and showcases the country’s best Senior Men’s AAA amateur teams. Three of the six teams from last year’s tournament have returned, including last year’s champion Bentley Generals representing the Alberta Region as well as the runner-up South East Prairie Thunder representing the West Region. Also in this year’s tournament are the Clarenville Caribous (Atlantic), the Dundas Real McCoys (Central), the Powell River Regals (BC) and the host Fort St. John Flyers. TSN’s Ryan Rishaug handles the play-by-play duties for the championship game alongside NHL Network’s Mike Johnson who serves as analyst.

TELUS Cup – April 25 at 5 p.m. ET on TSN2
Lévis, Que. is the site of this year’s National Midget Championship, the TELUS CUP, and TSN2 has coverage of the gold medal game on Sunday, April 25 at 5 p.m. ET. The TELUS CUP uses the same format as the ESSO CUP where five teams representing five regions across Canada plus the host team compete for the National Championship. This year’s field includes the reigning TELUS CUP champion Notre Dame Hounds representing the West region, as well as the St. John’s Fog Devils (Atlantic), Gaulois de Collège Antoine-Girouard (Quebec), Mississauga Reps (Central), Red Deer Optimist Rebels (Pacific) and the host Commandeurs de Lévis. TSN’s Rod Black will be in the booth calling the play-by-play with hockey analyst Jake Snyder.

RBC Cup – Sunday, May 9 at 3 p.m. ET on TSN
Canada’s Top Junior A hockey teams battle for national supremacy as they face off at the 40th RBC CUP in Dauphin, Man. Gaining a berth in the RBC CUP is an impressive feat, as only five of the more than 140 teams from across Canada earn the right to compete for the National Junior A Championship. The gold medal game airs on Sunday, May 9 at 3 p.m. ET on TSN.
