TSN is home to the nation’s favourite holiday TV tradition, delivering every game of the 2016 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP, as Team Canada travels to Helsinki, Finland looking to defend the gold medal they captured last year on home ice. Canadians can follow Team Canada’s every move on TSN with complete live coverage of the World Juniors from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, with pre-competition games beginning this Saturday, Dec. 19 (see below for complete broadcast schedule).
TSN’s World Juniors broadcast schedule includes:
- All four Team Canada preliminary round games, plus all 16 additional preliminary round matchups
- Every quarter-final and semifinal matchup, as well as the Bronze and Gold medal games

Since TSN began airing the World Juniors in 1990-91, the tournament has repeatedly broken audience records, highlighted by the 2015 Gold Medal Game in Toronto featuring Canada vs. Russia, which attracted an average audience of 7.1 million viewers to TSN and RDS, becoming the most-watched broadcast ever on specialty television in Canada.
Broadcast Team
Host James Duthie and Hockey Insider and leading junior hockey expert Bob McKenzie are live from the TSN Studio to follow Team Canada’s progress in Group A, and also deliver news and analysis throughout the playoffs and Gold Medal Game at the World Juniors. TSN’s Bryan Mudryk and Dave Reid cover Group B throughout the preliminary round. The network’s live post-game coverage features Post2Post contributions from goaltending experts Jamie McLennan and Martin Biron.
Calling all preliminary round Group A games from Helsinki Ice Hall, as well as the playoffs and Gold Medal Game, are play-by-play commentator and 2013 IIHF Paul Loicq Award winner Gord Miller and analyst Ray Ferraro, with Tessa Bonhommereporting from rinkside.
Calling all preliminary round Group B matchups from Hartwall Arena in Helsinki are play-by-play commentator Dennis Beyak and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button.
Canada’s #1 sports news program, SPORTSCENTRE, delivers breaking news, highlights, and daily updates from reporter Mark Masters, who is on-site in Finland to cover Team Canada. SPORTSCENTRE also features daily analysis from TSN’sWorld Juniors panel.

World Juniors Preview Show
Duthie, McKenzie, and Button tee up the tournament during the 2016 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP: PREVIEW SHOW on Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. ET across the TSN Network. The 60-minute preview show includes:
- “Meet Team Canada,” a feature introducing players on Team Canada’s roster

TSN once again delivers Esso World Junior Hockey on the TSN Radio Network, with 14 stations across Canada joining forces to bring Canadians live radio coverage of the World Juniors. Fans across the country can also listen live wherever they are on the TSN GO mobile app and online at TSN.ca/Radio.
