Black Books
Mondays at 6:30pm ET / 3:30pm PT starting October 3
Black Books follows the antics of the foul tempered and wildly eccentric bookshop owner, Bernard Black (DYLAN MORAN), his long-haired and equally long-suffering assistant Manny (BILL BAILEY) and his best and possibly only friend – Fran (TAMSIN GREIG). Bernard is driven by his own alcohol-fuelled logic and anyone attempting to buy a book from him is more likely to meet with the full force of his foul temper than leave his shop with a purchase. Bernard loves his books and hates his customers – a combination unlikely to earn him a businessman of the year award. Manny is laid back and considerate where Bernard is tense and embittered and Manny manages to breathe life and light into Bernard’s environment. The only person who can give Bernard a run for his money is his friend Fran – owner of Nifty Gifty – the gift shop situated next to Black Books. Fran is arguably just as crazy and sardonic as Bernard and can be charmingly engaging one minute and totally paranoid the next.

Benny Hill – CONTINUING
Thursdays at 8pm ET / 5pm PT
English comic Benny Hill became an international celebrity with his schoolboy brand of lecherous, burlesque humor. Bringing the tradition of the British vaudeville to television in 1955, the pudgy Hill hosted comedy series for the BBC and Thames Television over a period of thirty-four years. Featuring slapstick and sight gags, The Benny Hill Show always had a sexual energy, bursting with plenty of double-entendres and leggy starlets. The show was edited for worldwide syndication and became a cult phenomenon in the United States. American audiences quickly identified Red Skelton as a main source of inspiration (Hill borrowed Skelton’s closing line, “Good night, God bless”); but there was little sentimentality in the ribaldry of Hill’s characters. Although English audiences voted him “Funniest Man in the World” several times, he thought he never received the critical recognition he deserved. But to many, Hill was a genuine comic auteur, writing all his material and supervising every randy shot for his show that was enjoyed in over one hundred countries.
