OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network (Canada) and Force Four Entertainment Announce Start of Production on Million Dollar Neighbourhood

Corus Entertainment Inc. and Force Four Entertainment Inc., announced today production in Aldergrove, British Columbia on Million Dollar Neighbourhood, a new 10-part docu-reality series about one community’s epic journey toward financial freedom, set to air on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network (Canada) in early 2012. In only 10 weeks, the neighbourhood must increase their collective net worth by $1 million. Some families will rise to the top, others will drop out and others still will never join in – but those that stick with the program to boost their fiscal situation will be up for a surprise financial reward.

To reach the community’s million dollar goal, every family must see an average $1,000 net worth increase each week. They will need to dig deep, downsize, earn, barter, share, swap, scrimp, save and collaborate with their neighbours in ways they never could have imagined. And if all one hundred families in this community can do it, they will truly become a Million Dollar Neighbourhood.

“Million Dollar Neighbourhood is about the power of community, the astonishing things people can accomplish when they come together. It’s a social experiment on an impressive scale. The series promises to keep viewers surprised and amazed while providing valuable money saving insight. It’s a great fit for OWN’s brand of entertaining and enlightening television,” said Vibika Bianchi, Vice President, Original Programming, Lifestyle, Reality, Factual Entertainment, Corus Entertainment. “We’re thrilled that the community of Aldergrove is so enthusiastic about the challenge. Their passion for achieving this enormous goal is sure to inspire other communities, neighbourhoods and households in the process.”

“Every family will hold their neighbours accountable,” said Sean DeVries, Head of Factual, Force Four Entertainment. “But more tellingly, our team of Financial Experts will be guiding, gazing, and getting tough with anyone not contributing to the common goal. Shelter, transportation, food and every indulgence will be scrutinized.”

On March 1, 2011, OWN launched in over six million Canadian homes on what was previously the VIVA channel. OWN is available in Canada through a license agreement with OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
