YTV’s Fall 2011 Highlights

Corus Entertainment’s YTV welcomes long-time favourites and new series to its fall programming lineup, with a diverse roster of shows for both kids and their parents including live-action comedies, reality programming, animated series and award-winning dramas.

YTV PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS:

MONDAYS

BIG TIME RUSH – 6:30 p.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning September 5

Kendall, James, Logan and Carlos are four best friends from Minnesota who have been given the chance of a lifetime to join the glamorous L.A. pop music scene in Big Time Rush. But trading hockey sticks for hair and make-up isn’t always easy. Will celebrity life change these talented heartthrob teens forever? Produced in partnership by Nickelodeon and Sony Music, each half-hour of this live-action series features original songs performed by the group.

IN REAL LIFE (10 x 60) – 7 p.m.
NEW SEASON premieres October 3

The popular series In Real Life returns for a third season, with even bigger thrills! Host Sabrina Jalees returns to guide 18 new kids, aged 12 to 14, as they race across North America to compete in heart-pounding, real world challenges for a chance to win college tuition and an all expense paid family vacation.

THE NEXT STAR SEASON 4 – 7:00 p.m.

Over 4000 Canadian kids auditioned during The Next Star’s cross-country audition tour this past spring with hopes of making it into the Top 16 but only 1 will be voted The Next Star and receive the grand prize package at the series’ finale on Sunday, September 25 at 7 p.m., broadcast live from Canada’s Wonderland! Gemini-nominated host Adamo Ruggiero (Best Host in a Pre-School, Children’s or Youth Program or Series) returns with expert judges Suzie McNeilChristopher Ward and Steve Cranwell.

TUESDAYS

MR. YOUNG 6:30 p.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning September 6

Filmed in front of a live studio audience in Vancouver, Mr. Young stars Brendan Meyer as Adam Young, a whiz-kid-turned-teen genius who hit the books hard enough to get into university at the age of 9. Now, at the tender age of 14, he’s headed back to high school – as a teacher. Being the same age as his students, Adam finds himself trapped between two worlds – coping with his co-workers, who happen to be twice his age, while teaching his best friend, the girl he has a crush on, and the class bully. With one foot in the lunch room and the other foot in the staff room, it’s Mr. Young’s social life that’s being put to the test.

THAT’S SO WEIRD! 6:30 p.m.
NEW SEASON premieres October 5

Featuring an ensemble cast of seven young, talented sketch players, That’s So Weird! continues to provide a weekly slice of the outrageous and bizarre programs generated by the fictional So Weird TV network, where the programming is even weirder than the name. That’s So Weird! is nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award (Best Performance by an Ensemble – Television) and a Gemini Award (Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series).

THURSDAYS

HOW TO BE INDIE – 6:30 p.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning September 8

Melinda Shankar stars in this half-hour comedy as Indira “Indie” Mehta, a young woman straddling two worlds – that of her immigrant family and that of her peers. She’s caught at the crossroads of South Asian Heritage Street and Canadian Life Avenue but somehow manages to create a life that is neither ruled by her family nor ruled by her peers, but is 100% Indie! How to Be Indie is nominated for two Gemini Awards including Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series.

SPLATALOT – 7:30 p.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning September 8

A medieval castle, a sludge-filled moat and face-planting spills each week – welcome to Splatalot! Each week, 12 thrill-seeking teens compete in Canada’s largest obstacle course to see who will rule the Kingdom of Splatalot. Contestants compete in three rounds of extreme obstacles – Cross the Moat, Escape the Stockade and Capture the Crown – against the Defenders of Splatalot, an international squad of gladiators tasked with slowing down them down!

FRIDAYS

LIFE WITH BOYS (13 x 30) – 6:30 p.m.
NEW SERIES premieres September 9

Newcomer Torri Webster stars as 14 year-old Tess Foster, the only girl in a house full of boys. With the help of her best friend Allie, played by Madison Pettis (Phineas and FerbCory in the HouseThe Game Plan), Tess must navigate her way through the turmoil of teen life, including dealing with her overprotective dad and her overzealous, bathroom-monopolizing brothers! Produced by Nelvana Studio, Life With Boys is created by and executive produced by Michael Poryes (Hannah MontanaThat’s So Raven), and co-executive produced by Steven Petermanand Douglas Lieblein. VICTORIOUS – 7 p.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning September 9

Tori Vega (Victoria Justice) is a 15 year-old girl who has lived in the shadow of her sister Trina – the “star” of the family. When Tori unexpectedly lands an invitation to attend the prestigious Hollywood Arts high school, she soon learns that getting in might be a lot easier than fitting in. Although she doesn’t recognize how talented she really is, Victorious follows Tori’s journey toward discovering that she’s born to be a performer and that entertaining people is what makes her happiest.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (Seasons 1-5 / 76 x 60) 10 p.m.

Expanding on the hit feature film and best-selling book Friday Night Lights, this award-winning series centres on life in Dillon, Texas, where high school football brings the community together – and the drama of small town life threatens to tear it apart. Les, Noam, Thera and Lars are a group of ordinary kids on an extraordinary quest – to make their world more awesome! With the help of their monkey, Mr. Twitchy, Team Awesome is fighting the perils of blah and boredom with big ideas, wacky gadgets, and fierce determination.

SIDEKICK – 10:30 a.m.
NEW EPISODES beginning October 8

Produced in Canada by Nelvana Studio, this animated series follows young orphan Eric Neddles who lives in Sidekick, an animated world filled with superheroes and super villains. On the day Eric was to begin sidekicking for the greatest superhero of all time, Maxum Man, Maxum went missing – leaving this rookie with the task of making the world think that Maxum is still on the job. Since sidekicks aren’t good enough to be superheroes, Eric and his second stringer friends are always given the worst jobs, which mean they’re going to be the first projectiles thrown!

BEYBLADE: METAL MASTERS – 11:30 a.m.
NEW SERIES premieres September 10

After defeating Ryuga and his dark Bey L-Drago, Gingka is crowned the winner of the Battle Bladers Championship.  When news gets out, other bladers from around the world want their chance at defeating Gingka and capturing the title of #1 Beyblader. The WBBA, now headed by Ryo, calls a global competition enlisting top representatives from each country to compete. The Beyblade World Championship is announced and each country prepares to bring their best to the world stage. The competition brings together old friends, new rivalries and a whole new mix of Beyblades, tricks and strategies as well as travel to exotic locations and battle in never before seen Beystadiums. This time, the showdown is about more than a personal win, it’s about carrying on a nation’s pride!

SUNDAYS

BIG FUN MOVIES – Sunday afternoons

Featuring three films back-to-back every Sunday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., Big Fun Movies is hosted by YTV’s newest on-air personality Laura, who takes audiences at home behind-the-scenes to check out all things movie-related during her interstitials. Whether it be exploring a movie set or interviewing A-list stars, Laura is on a mission to find out everything about the magic of movie-making! Movies premiering this fall on YTV include Pink Panther 2 (2009), The Tale of Desperaux (2008), Coraline (2009), Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), Madagascar 2 (2008) and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009).
