TV Gord’s WHAT’S ON for the week of April 14th to 20th, 2019

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you don’t need reminding that the final six episodes start tonight with the season premiere, but Victor Hugo fans may want to know that a dramatic miniseries of Les Miserables is unspooling across the time slot on PBS. Other highlights this week include a new ABC sitcom following the wacky adventures of a young couple trading in city life for the rural life in Bless This Mess, and the long-awaited return of CBS’ Life in Pieces. Les Miserables on Masterpiece 9 to 10:07pm on PBS – Miniseries Premiere

Dominic West (The Affair), David Oyelowo (Selma), and Lily Collins (The Blind Side) star in this six-part dramatic (as opposed to musical) adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel. Oscar winner Olivia Colman also appears.

Game of Thrones – 9 to 10pm on HBO – 8th and Final Season Premiere

Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators – 10 to 11pm on BBC Canada – 2nd Season Premiere

You Me Her – 11 to 11:30pm on Crave – 4th Season Premiere

Tuesday

Bless This Mess – 9:30 to 10pm on ABC – Series Premiere

Dax Shepard (Parenthood) and Lake Bell (Boston Legal, Childrens Hospital) star as Mike and Rio, newlyweds who flee life in the big city to settle in for a simpler dream life in Nebraska. Boy, are they in for a rude awakening.

Disasters at Sea – 10 to 11pm on Discovery – Series Premiere

This docuseries documents various mishaps on the water, starting off with a vessel that is swallowed up in a typhoon, which spurs the crew’s families to launch their own investigation into what happened.

Wednesday

Life in Pieces – 8 to 9pm (two episodes) on City/8:30 and 9:30 on CBS Thursday – 4th Season Premiere

Breakthrough: The Ideas That Changed the World – 10 to 11pm on PBS

This series examines ground-breaking innovations, kicking off with a look at the origins of and improvements on the telescope, from the days of Galileo to Edwin Hubble.

The Amazing Race – 9 to 10pm on CBS/CTV – 31st Season Premiere

Supervet – 10 to 11pm on Cottage Life – 13th Season Premiere

Friday

I Love Lucy Funny Money Special – 8 to 9:01pm on CBS

Two newly-colourized episodes of I Love Lucy deal with Lucy and Ethel’s money-making adventures, first making and selling salad dressing, then arguing over the ownership of a winning “bonus” buck.

History Erased – 10 to 11pm on History – Series Premiere

This theoretical series looks at how the world would be different with certain key changes. In the opener, what if the world didn’t have Italy’s science and technology innovations and discoveries?
