TV GORD’S WHAT’S ON for the week of January 8-14, 2017

All Times are eastern

Plenty of new and returning shows this week, plus The Golden Globes, which will have people (perhaps unfairly) comparing Jimmy Fallon to previous hosts Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. A side note, the most amusing thing about the return of CBC’s Schitt’s Creek is hearing Ben Mulroney saying the name of the series in a promo for CTV’s Your Morning when Eugene Levy was scheduled to appear this past week. Happy viewing!

Sunday

The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards – Red Carpet at 7pm, Awards from 8 to 11pm on NBC/CTV

Jimmy Fallon hosts this year’s awards, which are highlighted by Meryl Streep receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. E! also has its usual pre-show festivities from 6 to 8pm and an after-party from 11pm to midnight.

Big Fan – 10 to 11pm on ABC – Series Premiere (Two back-to-back episodes)

This game show pits fans of particular stars against each other and the stars themselves. This first show features Matthew McConaughey, and football star Aaron Rogers follows in the second. It’s based on a segment from Jimmy Kimmel Live and is hosted by Conan O’Brien’s sidekick, Andy Richter.
