TV Gord’s WHAT’S ON for the week of October 7th to 13th, 2018

Another round of new and returning network shows is joined by new seasons of Doctor Who (with a new Doctor!), The Walking Dead, and the first spinoff minisode from Star Trek: Discovery. Happy Thanksgiving and happy viewing!

All times eastern; PBS time slots may vary on your station.

Sunday

Doctor Who – 1:45 to 3:10pm on Space (also rerun from 8 to 9:30pm) – 11th Season Premiere

Jodie Whittaker is the Thirteen Doctor (and the first woman, of course). I have high hopes for her tenure. She was excellent in Broadchurch, and although it was a heavy drama, she does seem to have skills with humour from what I’ve seen elsewhere. The producers say the first episode is written so that first-time viewers can tune in without being lost in the long and winding history of The Doctor.

Star Trek: Short Takes – 3:10 to 3:30pm on Space – Miniseries Premiere

Four mini-episodes of this series will be shown on a monthly basis until Star Trek: Discovery returns for its second season in January. They are designed to further explore the characters, be closed-ended stories, and to drop hints about what’s to come in the upcoming season.

Dancing With the Stars: Juniors – 8 to 10pm on ABC/Global – Spinoff Series Premiere

Younger stars (and children of stars) kickoff this inaugural season, which will be hosted by Frankie Muniz (Malcolm In The Middle) and Jordan Fisher (Grease: LIVE).

The Walking Dead – 9 to 10:26pm on AMC – 9th Season Premiere

Shark Tank – 10 to 11pm on ABC/CTV – 10th Season Premiere

Haunted Gingerbread Showdown – 10 to 11pm on The Food Network – Series Premiere

This gingerbread showcase kicks off with a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the movie, Beetlejuice.

Monday

Star Wars Resistance – 6:10 to 7:15pm on Showcase – Series Premiere

This anime-inspired series is set many years after the events in Return of the Jedi and six months before the events in The Force Awakens. It follows Kazuda Xiono, a pilot who is recruited into the Resistence to spy on the First Order.

Wednesday

Riverdale – 8 to 9pm on The CW/Netflix on Thursday – 3rd Season Premiere

All American – 9 to 10pm on The CW/W – Series Premiere
