Canada’s dance station bpm:tv celebrates new season launch on Labour Day

Canada’s only dance station, bpm:tv, launches its fall season Sept. 6 with an electrifying lineup that will feature original new productions and showcase more stars, more exclusive interviews and more cutting-edge dance music videos than ever before.

Celebrating its 10th season in 2010-2011, this digital specialty television service remains Canada’s foremost authority on all things dance, from the most glamorous events to the hottest new artists to make the scene.

“bpm:tv is unlike any other network in North America, celebrating the music, the sex appeal, the fashion and the essence of all that defines dance,” says Head of Programming Rosemary Fusca. “We’re dedicated to bringing our viewers the very best of dance from around the world, and to creating unique and original new programs that will energize and inspire people to dance.”

Highlights of the new season include the world premiere of the series Get Up N Dance. An original bpm:tv production hosted by award-winning dancer and choreographer Danny Davalos, this half-hour program spotlights Canada’s top choreographers as they demonstrate how to dance like a pro. Each episode features a dance tutorial, with routines based on specific styles such as hip-hop and breakdance, and reveals the artistry that goes into creating the moves.

Two new profile series join the schedule this season: the original bpm:tv production Live Sessions, which will take viewers behind the scenes with ground-breaking electronic music artists as they perform at Canada’s top clubs; and London Live, a UK series that showcases mind-blowing performances by Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Akon, Usher, Faithless and many more of the world’s biggest musical acts.

Other new in-house productions include Dekadance, a commercial-free hour delivering a superior mix of the latest disco, funk, house, electro and even old school hip-hop. Programmed for those getting revved up to party or who want great background music, Dekadance compliments bpm:tv’s popular Friday Nite Dance Party and Saturday Nite Dance Party, both of which feature two full hours of non-stop dance beats.

The exuberant Jorie Brown hosts returning favourite Back @ Ya, which gives viewers the chance to request their favourite videos, from the cutting-edge to the classic, and to add their shout-outs and dedications.

Scott Fox takes over hosting duties on the nightly Hot 20 Dance Chart, which returns for its ninth successful season. The hour-long show taps into popular ratings systems and the international dance music charts to count down the week’s hottest dance floor hits.
