The Pet Network, Canada’s only television network devoted to the world of pets, has secured distribution on Shaw Direct, significantly expanding its availability to viewers from coast to coast.
Customers who subscribe to Shaw Direct’s satellite direct-to-home services can now access The Pet Network in free preview on channel 556/187 (Classic/Advanced). The network will be offered as part of the Smart Stuff bundle for $4.99 per month, or as a Take 1 or Take 2 from $2.49 per month.
This follows in the wake of an Oct. 20 distribution agreement with Shaw Communications that makes The Pet Network available, for the first time, to Shaw cable television subscribers throughout Western Canada.
Launched in 2004, The Pet Network celebrates pets and the people who love them. Its programming lineup includes the network flagship Pet Central, a nightly magazine series that seeks out fascinating stories from the animal world; family programs such as the original Canadian series Mickey (produced for The Pet Network by Best Boy Productions of St. John’s, Newfoundland); a “Pet Docs” strand of animal documentaries; and reality shows such as Pit Boss, DogTown and Off The Leash.
Martha Fusca, President and CEO of Toronto-based Stornoway Communications, which operates The Pet Network and its sister stations ichannel and bpm:tv, said: “We are delighted that, through Shaw Direct, The Pet Network will now reach more Canadian animal lovers than ever before. We are proud of this channel’s rich and varied programming lineup, and look forward to winning many enthusiastic new viewers.”
