eOne to Bring Stanley Kubrick’s Projects to TV

Leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) is pleased to announce it has teamed up with Steve Lanning and Philip Hobbs to develop and produce two projects for television, Downslope and God Fearing Man from iconic filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

“We’re excited to be able to bring these extraordinary works to life on the small screen and to be joining forces with Philip and Steve who bring a wealth of experience and personal connection to the projects,” said Michael Rosenberg, eOne Television’s EVP, US Scripted Television. “We’re certain audiences and fans will hold a high level of expectation which we plan to deliver. This is real event television.”

Written by Stanley Kubrick and based on a true story by Civil War historian Shelby Foote, Downslope is an epic Civil War drama following the activities of Confederate Army Colonel John S. Mosby and his plot to settle the score after Custer captures and hangs several of his men.

Based on a screenplay by Stanley Kubrick and adapted for television by Brit screenwriter Stephen R. Clarke, God Fearing Man tells the true story of Canadian minister Herbert Emerson Wilson who became one of the best safe-crackers and most successful bank robbers in America in the early 20 th century.

Both projects will be produced by Entertainment One in association with Philco Films’ Emmy® winner  Steve Lanning (The Secret Garden, The World of Eddie Weary) and Philip Hobbs who worked closely with Kubrick for more than fifteen years on a number of projects including Full Metal Jacket. Michael Rosenberg and Adam Blumberg will oversee the projects on behalf of the indie studio. Bill Kelman will executive produce. eOne will handle worldwide rights to the series in all media.

eOne’s current scripted series include Hell on Wheels on AMC, Rookie Blue on ABC and Shaw, Call Me Fitz on DIRECTV and HBO Canada, preschool-phenom Peppa Pig on Nick Jr., Saving Hope on NBC and CTV and the upcoming suspense-drama starring Thandie Newton Rogue on DIRECTV, The Movie Network and Movie Central. The group also handles distribution of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Through strong relationships with broadcasters and content providers, eOne Television International has successfully sold eOne’s original and third-party productions to over 500 broadcasters in 150 countries, including key US networks and international pay TV channels.
