Paperny Entertainment Starts Production on YUKON GOLD for History

Vancouver-based Paperny Entertainment announces that production has begun on the new original series “Yukon Gold” for HISTORY. “Yukon Gold” follows four mining crews as they search for gold during the extremely short mining season. The series films for four months from now until fall 2012 across the Yukon, with a home base in Dawson City, YT. Produced by Paperny Entertainment, “Yukon Gold” (10 x 60’) is slated for a premiere in early 2013 on HISTORY.

“Paperny Entertainment is proud to be filming the real gold miners of the Yukon in search of treasure,” says David Paperny, president, Paperny Entertainment. “The world of the Yukon is spectacular – and the men we’re profiling are nothing short of heroic.”

The Yukon has a long history of gold-mining, beginning in 1896 when the discovery of gold sparked the Klondike Gold Rush that drew thousands to the rough wilderness in search of riches. Gold fever hit North America during one of the worst economic recessions, and the dream of fabulous wealth lured an estimated 100,000 people to the Yukon.

“The combination of tough economic times and rising gold prices is making history repeat itself.  For over 100 years men and women have tested their mettle in the Yukon.  YUKON GOLD brings this history to the 21st century with a group of miners who work against all odds to literally dig money out of the ground.  With big personalities seeking big rewards, ‘Yukon Gold’ promises the big entertainment that HISTORY viewers have come to expect,” says Barb Williams, Senior Vice President of Content, Shaw Media.

In ‘Yukon Gold’ crews are embedded in four gold mining camps between the spring melt and the fall freeze-up. It is the ultimate dirty job – and these miners have only four short months to earn their one BIG payday.  Battling mechanical breakdowns and 24-hour days under the midnight sun, these diehards have gold fever, and it keeps them coming back year after year for another chance to wager it all.

“Yukon Gold” is produced by Paperny Entertainment. The project is executive produced by David Paperny, Cal Shumiatcher and Audrey Mehler.
