Canadian TV Series “Dino Dan” Sets Nick Jr. Viewing Record

Nick Jr.’s Oct. 17 premiere of “Dino Dan” – the live-action kids series produced by Canada’s Sinking Ship Entertainment – set a record for the US network as the most-watched debut with K2-5 (383,000) and total viewers (753,000) in its history.

“Dino Dan” was recently nominated for a 2010 Gemini Award in the Best Pre-School program category and as a 2010 Shaw Rocket Prize finalist.

An all-star cast of celebrity comedians share the screen with 18 true-to-life, photo-real dinosaurs in the live-action, CGI adventure series “DINO DAN” that stars Jason Spevack (Fever Pitch; Sunshine Cleaning) as Dan Henderson. Dan – nicknamed “Dino Dan” by his friends – is an ordinary 10-year-old boy with an extraordinary obsession: he eats, sleeps and breathes dinosaurs. In “Dino Dan,” you don’t need to imagine dinosaurs – because they are everywhere! But while Dan is an expert in all things dinosaurs, he also specializes in getting his motley crew of classmates and teachers pulled into his larger-than-life adventures.

NICKELODEON RATINGS HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 11 – 17, 2010

Nickelodeon’s iCarly scored basic cable’s top entertainment telecast for the week (10/11/10-10/17/10) with a new episode, “iDo” (Monday, Oct. 11, 8 p.m. ET/PT), which drew 6.7 million total viewers. iCarly, followed by Big Time Rush (“Big Time Girlfriends,” Oct. 11, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT), also scored the top spot on broadcast and basic cable with all kid and tween demos for the week, helping Nick end the week as the number-one total day cable network with kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and total viewers.

iCarly “iDo” posted triple-digit gains and averaged a 13.5/2.9 million K6-11 (+187%), 12.9/2.7 million T9-14 (+291%) and 10.0/3.6 million K2-11 (+150%). The new episode also topped basic cable on Monday night. Big Time Rush “Big Time Girlfriends” ranked as the top entertainment telecast on cable in its 8:30 p.m. time period on Monday night, with 4.9 million total viewers. The half-hour premiere also averaged a 10.7/2.3 million K6-11 (+197%), 10.3/2.2 million T9-14 (+312%) and 8.0/2.9 million K2-11 (+176%).

Nickelodeon closed the week as the number-one total day cable net with K2-11 (3.3/1.2 million), K6-11 (2.9/635,000) and total viewers (2.1 million), fueled by solid performances by live-action hits iCarly and Big Time Rush; as well as animated fan favorites SpongeBob SquarePants, Planet Sheen and The Penguins of Madagascar – which ranks as the week’s top three animated series with kids 2-11, respectively.

Additionally, Nick Jr.’s premiere of new live-action series Dino Dan (Sunday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET) set a record for the net, as the most-watched debut with K2-5 (383,000) and total viewers (753,000) in its history.
