Nine Bakers Remain Following Cake Week on The Great Canadian Baking Show

Season 3 of CBC’s THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW returned this evening with two new hosts, Aurora Browne and Carolyn Taylor, one new judge Kyla Kennaley, one veteran judge Bruno Feldeisen and ten of the country’s best amateur bakers entering the iconic tent for the first time to face Cake Week.

The bakers whipped their best batter into shape, but the judges ultimately bid farewell to retired university executive assistant Betty Chan, 64, of Vancouver, British Columbia, while the honour of being named the first Star Baker of the season went to Edmonton, Alberta’s Nataliia Shevchenko. Throughout week one the bakers were asked to create a Lucky Number Cake for the Signature Bake, roll up a Strawberry Roulade for the Technical Challenge and finally, undertake designing a cake inspired by one of Canada’s provincial flags for the Show Stopper.

As Chan leaves the tent, the following bakers remain:

●        Colin Asuncion, 30, a marketing manager from Toronto, ON

●        Liam Harrap, 29, a journalist from Revelstoke, BC

●        Chris Koo, 30, a family physician from Edmonton, AB

●        Jasmine Linton, 22, a university student from Richmond Hill, ON

●        Andrea Nauta, 30, a barista from Comox, BC

●        Jodi Robson, 33, a table games dealer from Regina, SK

●        Nataliia Shevchenko, 33, an administrative assistant from Edmonton, AB

●        Jay Smidt, 51, a government trade officer from Cantley, QC

●        Mary Lou Snow, 67, a college physiotherapy instructor from Conception Bay South, NL

In the next episode of THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW, Biscuits Week will be a dream ‘crumb’ true, giving the remaining nine bakers a chance to show off their cookie and cracker making skills. The baking continues next Wednesday, September 25 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.

THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW brings together 10 amateur bakers from across the country to compete in a series of themed culinary challenges that celebrate their diverse backgrounds, families and communities. Each of the eight one-hour episodes features three rounds: the Signature Bake, the Technical Bake and the Show Stopper. After the baked goods are tasted and critiqued, the judges decide the week’s Star Baker, and who will be sent home. The final three bakers will compete for the Great Canadian Baking Show title.
