Cheerleaders, Assassins and Vampires Take Over /A\: Programming Highlights for September 2 – 19

/A\ gets a jump-start into Fall with the series premiere of HELLCATS and NIKITA. /A\ is also the new home to the second season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and welcomes back fan favourite AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.

Programming highlights for September 2 – 19 on /A\ include:

• Food obsessions and its impact on America’s obesity epidemic is the topic of the fourth and final installment of SECRETS OF YOUR MIND – WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO? (Sept. 7)
• A new season of drama begins on the season premiere of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL (Sept. 8)
• High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale stars in the new drama HELLCATS (Sept. 8)
• Katherine (Nina Dobrev) returns to Mystic Falls on the season premiere of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (Sept. 9)

McQueen). While Caroline (Candice Accola) is enjoying her day as Queen of the celebration, she also tries to help Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) get their friendship back on track.

When a director of a documentary crew (Jennifer Lopez, The Back-Up Plan) traveling through the Amazon jungle picks up a stranded man (John Voight, LONE STAR), they are unaware of the trouble that will occur. This stranger’s quest is to capture the giant Anaconda snake by any means necessary.

Saturday, September 4

On September 4, 1995, Stoney Point Natives assembled near Sarnia, Ontario, for what began as a peaceful protest. What was to be reclamation of a Native Indian burial ground left one man dead at the hands of an Ontario Provincial Police officer.

Directed by Deepa Mehta, the Oscar® nominated film examines the plight of a group of widows forced into poverty at a temple in the holy city of Varanasi. The film focuses on a relationship between one of the widows who wants to escape the social restrictions imposed on widows, and a man who is from the highest caste and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi (Mohan Jhangiani).

Monday, September 6

Allison (Patricia Arquette) and her family deal with the outcome of her brain surgery and what it means for her future.

When Allison (Patricia Arquette) investigates the kidnapping of an infant, Joe (Jake Weber) gets concerned that she has become too attached to the little boy.

After a fourth woman goes missing in Seattle in a period of four months, the BAU is brought in to track down the abductor before he kidnaps again.

Tuesday, September 7

Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler, Grown Ups) is a businessman who is wrongly sentenced to an anger-management program, where he meets an aggressive instructor, Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson, The Bucket List).

10 p.m. – SECRETS OF YOUR MIND – WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO? – FINALE
Also airs at 11 p.m. AT on /A\ Atlantic and 8 p.m. MT on ACCESS
Food on the brain and its impact on America’s obesity epidemic is the topic of the fourth and final installment. Martin Bashir reports on a story of an obese woman who has tried everything to lose weight, and now is embarking on the most revolutionary weight loss procedure ever attempted-brain surgery. Bashir also peers into the mind of a woman who eats out of control while she sleeps.

Wednesday, September 8

8 p.m. – AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL – “Welcome To High Fashion” – SEASON PREMIERE
Also airs at 9 p.m. AT on /A\ Atlantic and 9 p.m. MT on ACCESS
The 32 semi-finalists for cycle 15 head to Palm Springs, where they perfect their runway walk in clothing from Cynthia Rowley before being invited to a party hosted by the designer. Fourteen finalists will be one step closer to their dream as they prepare to move in to the Top Model house.

9 p.m. – HELLCATS – “A World Full Of Strangers” – SERIES PREMIERE
Also airs at 10 p.m. AT on /A\ Atlantic and 8 p.m. MT on ACCESS
In the series premiere, resourceful and spirited Marti Perkins (Alyson Michalka) is forced to apply for the Hellcats cheer squad at Memphis’ Lancer University to secure a scholarship and keep her place in school. Marti is shocked to see rival Savannah Monroe (Ashley Tisdale) is the Hellcat captain and holds the key to her fate. HELLCATS features choreography by SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA choreographer and guest judge Paul Becker and appearances by Season 1 Top 2 finalist Allie Bertram.

10 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Compulsion” – NEW TO /A\

The team of investigators tries to capture a serial arsonist who is terrorizing a college campus in Tempe, Arizona. Most of the evidence from the fires is burned beyond recognition, so the BAU must rely on psychological analysis to identify the fire starter.

Thursday, September 9

8 p.m. – THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – “The Return” – SEASON PREMIERE
Also airs at 9 p.m. AT on /A\ Atlantic and 9 p.m. MT on ACCESS
Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s (David Anders), and Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) fate. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love.

9 p.m. – NIKITA – “Pilot” – SERIES PREMIERE

When Nikita (Maggie Q) was a deeply troubled teenager, she was rescued from death row by Division, who trained her as a spy and assassin. Nikita was eventually betrayed by the only people she thought she could trust. Now, after three years in hiding, Nikita is seeking retribution and making it clear to her former boss, Percy (Xander Berkeley) and her former friends Michael (Shane West) and Birkhoff (Aaron Stanford) that she will stop at nothing to expose and destroy their covert operation.

Under the watchful eye of his mentor Captain Mike Kennedy (John Travolta, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3), probationary firefighter Jack Morrison (Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line) matures into a seasoned veteran at a Baltimore fire station. Jack has reached a crossroads, however, as the sacrifices he’s made have put him in harm’s way innumerable times and significantly impacted his relationship with his wife and kids. Responding to the worst blaze in his career, he becomes trapped inside a 20-story building. And as he reflects on his life, now Assistant Chief Kennedy frantically coordinates the effort to save him.

Demi Lovato (Camp Rock) drops by the set of this week’s photo shoot to surprise the girls for a conversation about teen bullying. During the photo shoot with photographer Deborah Anderson, the girls’ bodies are painted with a word that describes the type of bullying they have experienced. Legendary fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg joins Tyra Banks, Andre Leon Talley and Nigel Barker on the judges panel.

When a confused and desperate Caroline (Candice Accola) leaves the hospital and joins her friends at the Mystic Falls Carnival, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) wants to take immediate action, but Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) come to Caroline’s defense. Matt (Zach Roerig) is completely mystified by Caroline’s behavior, but still tries to tell her about his feelings for her. Damon has suspicions about Tyler’s Uncle Mason (guest star Taylor Kinney, TRAUMA) and uses Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) volatile personality in an attempt to get Mason to reveal his secret.

Based on personal journals and interviews with family and friends, Terry sheds light on the hardships and triumphs Terry Fox (played by Shawn Ashmore, BLOODLETTING & MIRACULOUS CURES) experienced while he ran a marathon a day, every day, for 143 days. With his best friend Doug Alward (Ryan McDonald, The Ballad of Jack & Rose, Fierce People), and his brother Darrell (Noah Reid, Black Hole High, Pippi Longstocking) by his side, viewers witness the moments that marked and motivated Terry to continue his fight for a cure.
