Global News Rebrands Global Maritimes as Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick

In keeping with its continued dedication to telling locally-focused stories of most interest to viewers, Global News is pleased to announce the rebranding of Global Maritimes to Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick. Taking place this coming Monday, April 15, the move is highlighted by the launch of new programming, the hiring of new on-air talent, and a renewed commitment to telling the grassroots, local stories in both provinces.

“The rebranding of Global Maritimes into Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick demonstrates our continued investment in creating a state of the art news operation centred on local reporting,” says Troy Reeb, Senior Vice President, Global News and Station Operations. “This move caps off what has already been a successful period of growth in the region and represents the importance we place on providing timely and poignant community coverage.”

This separation of Global Maritimes into Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick will move both stations away from being an amalgamated regional news source to focusing more on local stories in both areas. Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick will continue to maintain a close relationship by sharing newsgathering and reporting resources, including the use of Senior Anchor Ron Kronstein andMeteorologist Trevor Adams in both markets.

This award-winning broadcast team will continue to produce two different, locally-focused Evening News casts for viewers in Halifax and surrounding areas, as well as for those in New Brunswick. On Monday, April 15th, the team will replace the current one-hour regionalNews Final at 11pm with a local 30-minute News Final newscast for both stations. Continuing to air at 11pm, Global Halifax’s News Final and Global New Brunswick’s News Final will feature hyper-local news and content as well as local weather forecasts tailored specifically to audiences in both provinces.

To augment this New Brunswick focus, Global News has also hired esteemed broadcast journalist Shelley Steeves to be the station’s newSenior Correspondent. Based in Moncton, Steeves will travel throughout Global New Brunswick’s provincial bureaus to bring viewers timely stories and content on the Evening News and News Final casts. The recipient of several national and international journalism awards, the Moncton, New Brunswick native brings over 18 years of broadcast experience to the Global New Brunswick team. Prior to joining Global, Steeves was a Reporter and Producer for CBC News Moncton as well as the Atlantic Bureau Chief for the Weather Network.

“Shelley brings a wealth of reporting experience to the Global New Brunswick team, and we are pleased to have her on board in this pivotal new Senior Correspondent role,” says Jim Haskins, Station Manager & News Director. “With Shelley joining the team, Global New Brunswick will be in an even better position to report on the breaking news making waves across the province, and dig deeper on the investigative pieces viewers care most about.”

On the heels of the launch of the newly-designed GlobalNews.ca, Global New Brunswick feature an augmented web component designed to focus on all relevant breaking news. Central to this expansion will be the addition of a full-time web producer to file exclusive stories forGlobalNews.ca’s New Brunswick community portal.
