A Scot and an Indian walk into a bar, and the result is as subtle as bagpipes when DANNY BHOY: SUBJECT TO CHANGE makes its Canadian debut, exclusively on The Comedy Network. Premiering Saturday, April 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT as part of The Comedy Network’s SATURDAY NIGHT STAND-UP series, this one-hour special puts the “accent” on cultural stereotypes as the Scottish comedian brings his razor-sharp wit to the stage. Viewers can visit www.thecomedynetwork.ca starting April 16 for a chance to win tickets to see Danny Bhoy on his upcoming, 14-date Canadian tour.
Recorded live at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, DANNY BHOY: SUBJECT TO CHANGE delivers cultural jabs in a jaunty, Scottish brogue. From the global economy to the German lottery, Danny Bhoy leaves absolutely nothing unscathed:
On his own mixed heritage: “I don’t look Scottish, I know that. I’m half-Scottish, half-Indian, in fact…which is, you know, fine. It means that unlike most Scots I don’t get sunburned watching fireworks.”
On being in Canada: “The first thing my friends said when I told them I was off to Canada was ‘Oh, watch out for the bears, Danny. If you see an angry bear pretend to be dead.’ F@#k, I won’t be pretending for long. It’s a bear that’s already angry. Surely I shouldn’t be playing a practical joke on it. It’s not in the right frame of mind!”
Since his first solo show at the 2001 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Danny Bhoy’s star has continued to rise. In a short few years, Danny has built up a massive following and has continually smashed box office records in Australia, New Zealand and his home country of Scotland. His appearance at the Just for Laughs Festival created a stir among audiences and critics alike with the Montreal Gazette describing him as “the stand out hit of the festival.” In the same year he was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Individual Comedy Performance. In 2008, he appeared on the prestigious All Star Gala, usually reserved for veteran comics of the festival.
