TV GORD’S WHAT’S ON FOR THE WEEK OF April 10-16, 2016

Several new and returning cable shows premiere this week, taking advantage of some network shows being in repeat mode (until May sweeps). Happy viewing!

Sunday

2016 MTV Movie Awards – 8 to 10pm on MUCH

Dwayne Johnson and Chris Tucker host the 25th anniversary awards show, which feature a performance by Ariana Grande and Will Smith receiving the Generation Award for lifetime achievement.

Hit The Floor – 8pm on Superchannel – 3rd Season Premiere

The Girlfriend – 9pm on Superchannel – Series Premiere

Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film, The Girlfriend Experience, is the basis for this 13-episode thriller about a young attorney who leads a double life as a high-end sex worker. Christine Reade stars.

Fear The Walking Dead – 9pm on AMC – 2nd Season Premiere

House of Lies – 9pm on TMN – 5th Season Premiere

Dice – 9:30pm on TMN – Series Premiere

Andrew “Dice” Clay stars in this semi-autobiographical comedy which sees the comedian trying to make a comeback while managing his son’s metal band and his own gambling problems. Set in Las Vegas, the series will feature many guest stars playing amped up versions of themselves, including Michael Rapaport, Wayne Newton and Criss Angel.

Outlander – 10pm to 11:15 on Showcase – 2nd Season Premiere

Monday

Jackie Robinson – 9 to 11pm (continues Tuesday at the same time)

Ken Burns gives the legendary baseball player a special documentary miniseries treatment.

Hunters – 10:06pm on Showcase – Series Premiere

A former soldier-turned-FBI-Agent who suffers from PTSD finds his life turned further upside down when his wife disappears, leading him on an odyssey to a secret government organization that fights alien terrorists known as Hunters. The series is inspired by the Whitley Strieber novel, Alien Hunter, and stars Nathan Phillips, Britne Oldford and Julian McMahon.

Tuesday

Game of Silence – 10pm on NBC/Global – Series Premiere (moves to Thursdays at 10)

A childhood secret comes back to haunt five friends in adulthood in the ten-episode first season of this series from Executive Producer David Hudgins (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights). After a stupid prank lands the kids in a nightmarish juvenile detention facility for nine months, their lives take a different turn that comes back to haunt them as adults. David Lyons stars with Michael Raymond-James, Larenz Tate, Derek Phillips and Bre Blair.

Wednesday

Strong – 9 to 11pm on NBC/CHCH – Series Premiere

Ten women from various backgrounds team up with elite male trainers in this reality series that tests strength and endurance. Gabrielle Reece hosts. (Moves to its regular time at 8pm on Thursday.)

Thursday

American Grit – 9pm on Fox – Series Premiere

WWE’s John Cena hosts this military-inspired reality show that follows 16 men and women as they are tested in a variety of military and survival challenges.

Orphan Black – 10pm on Space – 4th Season Premiere (followed at 11 by post-show After The Black)
